Ankal was founded by John Edma. While studying for his MBA in International Business, he came across an idea–one which he couldn’t let go for a while. This idea flourished after with the input of Santiago Davalos in the early development of Ankal. While John Edma understood the political landscape of Haiti, Santiago Davalos brought his knowledge of marketing to the planning stage. The vision was created after the inclusion of Christopher Johnson, a proactive analyst. It was with Christopher Johnson that Ankal found ground in the processing of daily operations, and the design of projects. After Johnson’s integration into the organization, John Edma contacted an old friend and colleague, Dennery Alain Menelas, with whom the possibility of a structured institution developed. Dennery Alain Menelas, an Economics and Political Science graduate from the University of Massachusetts, shared his blog with Ankal and assumed the role of VP, overlooking the strategic direction of the company. From here, Ankal began its path towards helping societies facing scarcity of resources.
